<description>When co-worker Owen asked me to come up with a simple wedding invitation for him and his partner based on antique Italian olive oil tins, I jumped at the chance.

To achieve an honest, hand-crafted quality that would reflect both the inspiration source and Owen and Stefan's aesthetic, we had them screenprinted (by the wonderful Studio XIX) on a heavy cotton cover stock and designed them as simple postcards, rather than the usual invite with envelope. Simple. Honest. Rustico.

<description>When my friend Mike approached me to design some cards for his 'mixologist for hire' business, we had some long discussions over many fine bourbons and landed on the idea to produce matchbooks instead of traditional cards. What other item is so synonymous with bars, practical, and well, flammable?

I decided to push the boundaries (literally) and print on every square inch of the card. This led to some frustrating proof checks, as the standard procedure is to slap your logo on the front of the book and be done with it. After much persistence and multiple revisions, we got the finished books back, pretty close to the intended design. We're both happy with them and plan to outfit Mike's mobile bar with a full array of printed ephemera.

*The typeface used is the super versatile 'Knockout', by Hoefler &#38; Frere-Jones.

<description>Another shoestring pro bono commercial project I worked on, this time while at TAXI Canada. Again, wearing many hats (hey, who doesn't like hats?) I directed, co-edited, designed the graphics, and found the music for it. Josh Ingleby did all the After Effects work (hire him, he rocks joshjingles.ca).

<description>I somehow ended up writing, directing, producing, casting, location scouting, wardrobe buying, editing and soundtracking this 30 sec spot for the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an event where men walk a mile in stilettos to raise awareness and money to end violence against women.

My friend Dhani lent us his crossfit gym for the day and our friend Mike lent us his body and patience. Total budget: $200.

Another friend and fellow appreciator of women, Henry Sansom, lent his shooting expertise and Red camera. Check out his stuff here.

Produced while at Espresso.
